Dear Family and Friends,

Hi my name is Vasshaun Battie. Welcome to my first newsletter. I am an 15 years old sophomore that over the summer of 2009 i am interning at Graffiti Zone. Its because i have been coming here for about a year and a half and by me being an intern I am responsible for my own music program.

These are just on of my many projects including art , and working with the kids of Graffiti Zone.  I have a lot of experience in the world of art and being an intern here. Over the course of the summer i have learned much and hope to continue learning more as i progress here at Graffiti Zone.

In the last couple weeks here as an intern we have recently worked on a mural by a local park. It is a weekly  a contest to see who could draw the best house and win the small prize of $5. In my time here I have worked with my fellow peers as well as younger kids to try and make my community seem a little greener and a little prettier. Come on out next Wednesday at 3:30 and paint your House.  {1722 N. Springfield next to Bielfus Park} If you have any leftover house paint you can donate to help us complete the mural we will be happy to pick it up!
"Keep it Clean"

As a part of the community service
the Graffiti zone interns went to a lot
on Chicago avenue one of the
 most underprivileged and messy
parts of Chicago. we came there and immediately got to work.
we had really worked hard and soon enough we completed  the clean up
and we put together a beautiful space
 for the Chicago avenue people
to enjoy for times to come. we also painted a store front  for a owner who couldn't afford to
do it himself.

CJ's Patio Garden

We recently did a garden project for our new space and favorite neighborhood restaurant CJ's. It was a lot of hard work and it seemed to be getting tiring. We then had started to progress and the garden started coming along and soon what had started as a  dirty back yard came to be a beautiful garden to fit a cool restaurant.

CJ's is located at 3839 W Grand Ave. CJ's is open Thursday -Sunday and soon we will help him keep it open all week long. If you interested in helping out with any part of cooking or event planning let us know!

CJ`s is our new space!!
